Performance Of Deepak Phenolics

Dpl plant 2

Deepak Phenolics Ltd. (DPL), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Deepak Nitrite Limited commenced operation in November 2017. This 1400 Cr. investment is based at Dahej, Gujarat, is the largest domestic producer of Phenol & Acetone with the lowest thermal footprint enabled by state of the art technology.

This mega-project is aligned with the Make-in-India initiative of the Government of India. This plant consumes 200,000 tons of Benzene and 100,000 tons of Propylene, both of which are sourced from domestic refineries.

With an annual production capacity of 260,000 tons of cumene, 200,000 tons of Phenol and 120,000 tons of Acetone, this plant has reduced import dependency by over 70% of pre-2017 demand. Strong domestic production capacities have also encouraged other companies to setup projects for value added Phenol based derivatives for the domestic and international markets.

When the news of Covid-19 broke and the national lock down was enforced, the country desperately needed hand sanitizers and surface disinfectants. The key raw material for which is Iso-Propyl Alcohol (IPA) with 55% of domestic demand being imported. When world wide supply chains broke down and international logistics channels were at a standstill, Deepak Phenolics came up.

In April 2020, Deepak Phenolics self commissioned a first ever commercial scale Acetone to IPA technology with 30,000 tons annual production capacity. With the national and state government's support we delivered on Mission Atmanirbhar and supplied IPA to pharmaceutical and sanitizer producers, ensuring they could continue producing necessary medicines and save lives.
